Driverless Taxis Testing Near Tokyo

Taxi and Uber drivers in Tokyo have new competition, no one. DeNA Co., a mobile portal and e-commerce company, and auto manufacturer Nissan have partnered to launch the service Easy Ride. Easy Ride is a driverless taxi service that allows passengers to travel in "robo-vehicles" equipped with autonomous driving technology. Passengers can use their mobile app to pick from a list of popular destinations along a set route and instant download coupons for their selected destination.  Easy Ride is working to develop expanded services routes, a vehicle distribution system, simple pick up and drop off processes and multilingual support. In response to the Easy Ride test, Sony has announced a plan to develop its own driverless ride-hailing services using artificial intelligence.
